Niels Hoegel is a Narcissist.

Niels Hoegel is a Narcissist. In case you never heard of Hoegel, he is a 42-year-old German nurse who was just sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 85 patients in his care. Mr. Hoegel administered life-threatening drugs to patients that had not been prescribed. Once the patients reacted to the drugs, Hoegel worked to resuscitate them, saving some lives and losing others. Hoegel testified that he felt euphoric when he was able to save a patient’s life. He enjoyed being hailed as a hero by hospital staff.

The Mayo Clinic describes Narcissistic Personality Disorder as “a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others.”

Niels Hoegel created one crisis after another, then proudly wore the mantel of hero when he claimed to solve the calamities he created.

Sound familiar?

These past two years have seen President Trump create crisis after crisis. He taunted North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the most violent and repressive dictator on the planet, and then falsely claimed that the crisis was over, that North Korea would end its nuclear program and that Kim was now a friend of the U.S. He threatened Mexico, our neighbor and biggest trading partner, with tariffs that would seriously damage our economy and theirs, only to back off at the last minute, once again claiming victory by waiving a so-called agreement that did nothing more than restate commitments made by Mexico months ago. He has imposed tariffs on China and threatens even more. In the meantime, China fights back, and the tariffs are having a devastating effect on American farmers and industries.

Hospital staffs in Germany came to see Niels Hoegel for the narcissist he is. America needs to wake up to the fact that we too have a narcissist problem.
